Soul Chapter Beginner's Guide: Martial Souls, Soul Spirits and Slot Order
A first-week route for Soul Chapter: choose a martial soul, fit three soul spirits, order your skill slots and know when the dodge build is the wrong pick.
Your first real decision in Soul Chapter is not which hero to chase. It is which martial soul to build around, because that choice decides the stats you roll, the soul spirits worth feeding, and the soul ring affixes you keep. The English title is a working translation and the game currently runs in Chinese, so treat every name here as a readable label rather than something you can search in an app store.
The martial soul is the build, not a costume
Five souls do five different jobs. The hammer is the campaign generalist, the spear is a control tool, and the sausage is a PvP survival pick. The Soft-Bone Rabbit trades burst for lifesteal and combo, while the Six-Winged Angel is a later counter-and-crit option rather than a starting plan.
| Martial soul | Job | Stats to chase |
|---|---|---|
| Hammer | Campaign and general damage | Crit, combo, crit damage |
| Spear | Arena control | Speed, stun, combo |
| Sausage | PvP survival | Dodge, counter, HP |
| Soft-Bone Rabbit | Sustained damage | Lifesteal, combo |
| Six-Winged Angel | Late-game counter damage | Counter, crit |
If you mostly push story stages, build the hammer; it is the least dependent on a perfect supporting cast. If your server week is arena, build the spear instead, because stun windows decide those fights.
Three soul spirits, one element to lean on
You can field three soul spirits at once, no more. Each carries one of five elements: gold for attack, wood for HP, water for speed, fire for crit, and earth for defense. Matching elements on the same team gives a resonance bonus, so a scattered set of three is usually weaker than a tighter set of two.
If you are on the hammer, prioritize gold and fire; if you are on the sausage or another dodge plan, water and wood do more of the work. If a third spirit breaks your resonance, replace it with an on-element body before you spend materials leveling it.
Slot order decides how much of a skill you get
Community write-ups put mythic skill effectiveness at 100% in slot 1, 75% in slot 2, and 25% in slot 3. That figure comes from a single community source, not a datamined table, so treat it as a placement guideline rather than a law. The direction is still clear: the front slot is where a skill actually performs.
If your main damage skill sits in slot 3, move the carry to slot 1 even when the swap costs some raw stats. If a support skill is the reason your team survives, put the support in slot 1 and accept weaker personal damage.
Forge level is the ceiling on your rings
The forge sets the quality ceiling for the soul rings you can use. Farming rings above that ceiling is wasted time, because you cannot wear them yet. Raise the forge first, then farm, and break down low-year rings instead of hoarding them.
Soul rings roll attack, defense, HP, and speed, plus random affixes such as crit, combo, stun, dodge, lifesteal, and resistance. If a ring's quality is capped, stop the ring run and upgrade the forge. If you are building dodge, keep only dodge and stun resistance on your rings; every other affix is inventory clutter for that plan.
The dodge lineup survives cheaply and kills slowly
The dodge plan is built around a main damage hero, a survival pair that raises dodge and counter, and a spirit that returns about 15% of missing HP on each dodge. It runs an undead domain for extra output while dodging, and it uses the Fear Eye soul tool to cover the build's real weakness: stun. Its rings carry dodge and stun resistance and nothing else.
The cost is damage. A dodge team clears ordinary PvE comfortably but hits slowly, and it is weak in faction and guild-style events where raw output is scored. If your weekly schedule is faction events, run a damage soul for those days. If you commit to dodge, accept a slower campaign and use the sausage for PvP rather than forcing it into every mode.
FAQ
Which martial soul should a new account pick?
The hammer, unless arena control is your main goal. It clears campaign stages with the least support, and its crit and combo stats are easy to evaluate on a fresh account.
Can I run the dodge build everywhere?
No. It survives well in solo PvE, but its damage is low and it underperforms in faction events. Keep a damage soul for scored content.
Does slot order really matter?
Community guides report 100/75/25 effectiveness by slot, but that is a single source. Place your carry and your key support in slot 1 rather than gambling on the back slots.
